Steven Victor Speaks on Pop Smoke's Grammy Nomination | "Who is D Smoke"

Record Label Executive, Steven Victor, publicly voiced his opinion about the Grammy’s in an interview with GQ after Pop Smoke was nominated for his hit single, Dior. Victor has been in the music industry for some time and has had a great career doing so, as he has worked as an executive for G.O.O.D. Music, Def Jam and Universal Music Group, while able to manage Pusha T and The Dream under William Victor Management Group. He is the founder of Victor Victor Worldwide, Pop Smoke’s label, and has helped bring Pop Smoke’s music from the streets of Brooklyn to worldwide.

Steven Victor said in an interview “The grammy’s is cap bro. No disrespect but who is D Smoke?” and went on to say "How does he not get nominated for Album of the Year or Rap Album of the Year or Best New Artist? This is his only chance to get nominated for these awards," - "He should’ve been nominated for Best New Artist, he should’ve been nominated for Album of the Year, and he should’ve been nominated for Rap Album of the Year. He should’ve swept the whole thing. It doesn’t make any sense." I can definitely understand where Victor is coming from and his frustration with the awards, Pop’s album was definitely one of the best of 2020, especially it was genre bending and so unique that he brought that Brooklyn - U.K Drill music mainstream. Working with all of Hip Hop’s best artists, Pop was on his way to be a superstar in hip hop, and the grammy’s made a mistake not nominating him for more than just Dior.
